Introduction

QuickDrag is a Firefox/SeaMonkey extension that extends the function of the drag-and-drop mouse gesture so that it can be used to load URLs, do a web search of selected text on a page, or save an image on a page—all with a simple drag-and-drop.

QuickDrag was inspired by the defunct Super DragAndGo extension.

How do I use QuickDrag?

Select some text on a webpage and then drag-and-drop it anywhere to search for the text in a new tab using the Firefox search box's currently-selected search engine.

Usage Tips & Tricks

Open a dragged link in a new tab: By default, when you drag-and-drop a text link, QuickDrag will search for the text of that link instead of opening the link in a new tab (which is what Super DragAndGo did). This is because you can already open links in a new tab by just middle-clicking on them. But if you prefer the old SD&G behavior and would like QuickDrag to open a text link instead of searching, you can check the "Open clickable links in new tabs instead of searching or saving" option in QuickDrag's settings.

Open an image in a new tab: If you hold down the Ctrl key when you drag-and-drop an image, it will open the image in a new tab. If you want to do this without having to hold down the Ctrl key, you can uncheck the "Use drag-and-drop to download images" option in QuickDrag's settings.

Open tabs in the foreground or background: You can select whether tabs opened by QuickDrag are opened in a foreground tab or background tab in QuickDrag's settings. You can also temporarily reverse this behavior for a particular drag-and-drop if you hold down the Shift key when dropping.

Saving URLs: To save a URL instead of opening it in a new tab, hold down the Alt key when dropping. This is analogous to the browser's built-in behavior of saving links using Alt+Click.
